Night Shift Fluffinity

I’ve written a lot about the need for a brewery to find the right balance between their stable of core/flagship brands and the rotating/seasonal/one-off beers that keep the brand innovative and interesting. A good example of a brewery that has found this balance is Night Shift. Their core brands are all strong, led by hoppy beers like Whirlpool and Santilli along with lagers like Nite Lite and the new Nite Heavy. They also have a variety of seasonal favorites including their Weisse series of fruited sours and dark beers like Awake and Dynasty. Night Shift’s rotating beers can be all over the map, it usually features some diverse lager styles, occasional Belgian beers and sours, and always a bunch of different hoppy offerings. It makes a lot of sense to load up the rotating selections with hoppy beers, I think the haze fans tend to be the most promiscuous beer drinkers, and always want a new haze bomb to sample. Some of Night Shift’s experimental beers have morphed into more regular offerings, including their “Fluffy” series of NEIPAs. The newest release in the series is Fluffinity, a NEIPA brewed with Citra, Simcoe and Idaho 7 hops and available now in 16 oz cans.

Night Shift Fluffinity

Night Shift Fluffinity pours hazy light orange with a solid white head. The aroma features a big burst of hops, heavy on the tropical fruit. The flavor is also hop forward, notes of peach, mango, and tangerine along with a very soft bitterness. The hops are balanced by some malt, hints of bread dough and cereal. Flufinity is medium-bodied and very smooth, at 7.0% ABV it is on par with many NEIPAs. The finish is crisp with a coating of hop flavor lingering on the tongue. This is a top-notch NEIPA, one of the best I’ve had from Night Shift, hopefully it finds a regular spot in the rotation. I look forward to drinking this again in the very near future, and getting back to the Night Shift taproom when things get back to normal! Hoppy Boston score: 4.75/5.
