Cambridge Brewing Co. The Hopheads Guide To The Galaxy

This past weekend Cambridge Brewing Company celebrated their 30th anniversary with a big party and an impressive draft list at their Kendall Square brewpub. I was, unfortunately, unable to make the party due to family commitments, but I stop by CBC pretty regularly and hope to sample a few of their special anniversary beers before the kegs kick. Cambridge Brewing is an interesting case, while the industry seems to be dominated by haze bro hype CBC has continued to be one of the most respected breweries in the area, especially amongst beer geeks who appreciate a wide range of innovative and delicious beers. Like many other breweries in the region, CBC has noticed the dominance of the NEIPAs, and has decided to make their own versions of the style, releasing a few different beers over the last couple months. Their New England style DIPA The Fog That Surrounds did extremely well in a recent blind tasting of local IPAs, and they followed that up with a new beer, The Hopheads Guide To The Galaxy (an excellent Douglas Adams reference). Cambridge Brewing Co. The Hopheads Guide To The Galaxy is brewed with a hop blend starring Galaxy hops, and is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.

CBC The Hopheads Guide To The GalaxyCambridge Brewing Co. The Hopheads Guide To The Galaxy pours murky light yellow with a solid white head. The aroma is a big burst of fruity hops, loads of tropical scents. This beer is a Galaxy hop-bomb, ripe pineapple, mango and papaya along with just a touch of late bitterness. The hops are balanced by some pale malts, hints of bread dough and crackers. The Hopheads Guide To The Galaxy is medium bodied and goes down very smooth, at 7.0% ABV it is in the same range as many NEIPAs. The finish is crisp with plenty of lingering hops. This is a delicious beer, I am not surprised at all that a quality establishment like CBC makes an exceptional NEIPA. Hoppy Boston score: 4.75/5.
