Notch Tmavy

With the pandemic shutting down or severely limiting the capacity of taprooms many breweries are finding creative ways to get the beers they brew into the hands of their customers. Some traditional methods continue, like distribution to liquor stores and limited draft sales at restaurants. Beer-to-go at the breweries has continued with carside/no-contact pickups encouraged. A small number of breweries are organizing their own home delivery services, usually just in a small area near the brewery, but occasionally over a larger region. Running their own home delivery business doesn’t make sense for many breweries, so instead they are taking advantage of existing parcel delivery services like UPS and FedEx to deliver their beer directly to customers. The delivery fees can be a little steep, but I don’t mind paying a bit extra for the convenience of delivery and to help out my favorite breweries. I recently placed a home delivery order at Notch, the next day three 4-packs of delicious session beer were delivered to my doorstep. This included a pack of Tmavy, a traditional Czech dark lager, which is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.

Notch Tmavy pours cola brown with a solid tan head. The aroma features some rich roasted malt. These malts also lead the flavor, notes of chocolate, caramel and whole grain bread. Some old-world hops add balance along with hints of herbs and grass. Tmavy is light and easy drinking, like every beer with a Notch label it is a session beer at 4.5% ABV. The finish is crisp and clean with just a hint of residual malt flavor. This is an excellent dark lager and another great beer in the Notch portfolio. It is worth a delivery order for this beer alone! Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
