Barewolf Eat My Schwarz

As I’ve mentioned before I try to withhold judgment on my opinion of a brewery until I’ve tried a number of different beers across a range of styles. There have been too many instances where a brewery makes awesome hoppy beers but their offerings in other styles are mediocre or worse. On the other hand, many of my favorite breweries in the region excel in a wide range of styles, and these breweries quickly become go-to’s for me. Now that Barewolf Brewing has regular distribution I’ve tried, and very much enjoyed, a few of their hoppy beers, so I was excited to try some of their other offerings. I recently grabbed cans of Eat My Schwarz, Barewolf’s black lager (also called a schwarzbier). I love dark lager styles, especially in the winter, and when you add on a solid Simpsons blackboard gag reference I am definitely going to try the beer. Barewolf Eat My Schwarz is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.

Barewolf Eat My Schwarz

Barewolf Eat My Schwarz pours pitch black with a small tan head. The aroma features rich roasted malt. The flavor is also malt forward, notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and toffee. This malt flavor is balanced by a touch of hops, herbal and earthy. Eat My Schwarz is light and easy-drinking, nearly a session beer at 4.8% ABV. The finish is crisp and clean with just a hint of roasted malt. This is a really good black lager, a nice mixture of rich malt flavor with drinkability. Barewolf is quickly becoming a must-try brewery for me, they make a range of delicious beer including this one! Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
