Long Love Brewing has certainly made its mark on the Rhode Island beer scene. Their beers are so popular that they quickly outgrew their original brewery and taproom, opening a much larger new facility in the city earlier this year. I haven’t been to the brewery, it has been way too long since I’ve been to Providence at all, but I am very fortunate to have awesome friends who live in Providence and love quality beer. My friends Tim and Amanda have hooked me up with a steady stream of Long Live beers when we get together. When we hosted them for dinner a few weeks back they came with growlers of some of Long Live’s NEIPAs and a few can selections, including Ohhh Myyy. Long Live Ohhh Myyy is an imperial stout aged on cocoa and toasted coconut that is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.
Long Live Ohhh Myyy pours pitch black with a solid dark brown head. The aroma is all roasted malt and cocoa. This is a rich and decadent imperial stout, the kind you want to slowly sip on a chilly night. The flavor is malt forward, notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and molasses along with just a hint of sweetness. The adjuncts are present but not overpowering, hints of cocoa and coconut. A mild dose of hops rounds out the flavor, earthy with a little bitter bite in the finish. Ohhh Myyy is a full-bodied sipper but goes down very smooth for a beer weighing in at 10% ABV. The finish is rich with some lingering malt flavors. This is a delicious imperial stout, easy-drinking, well crafted and plenty of flavor. Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
