Long Live Bonus Cup

My good friends Tim and Amanda live in Providence and are my source for everything Rhode Island beer. One of the breweries they have repeatedly identified as a local favorite destined for big things is Long Live Beerworks in Providence. Long Live sells pints along with growlers and cans to go out of a small Providence location, but they are working on building out a massive new brewery right now. I’ve enjoyed the somewhat limited selection of Long Live beers I’ve had a chance to try, they specialize in hop-bomb New England style IPAs but also dabble in a number of other styles. When I got together with Tim on our annual guys weekend he brought me a few new Long Live releases to sample. One was Bonus Cup, a stout brewed with local coldbrew coffee from The Nitro Cart. Long Live Bonus Cup is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.

long live bonus cupLong Live Bonus Cup pours deep brown with a massive tan head. The aroma is a mixture of rich coffee and roasted malt. The malts lead the flavor, hints of caramel, brown sugar, and milk chocolate. There is plenty of coffee flavor here too, it meshes well with the malt flavor and takes center stage without overwhelming the base beer. A touch of hops round out the flavor and add a mild bitter bite to the finish. Bonus Cup is medium bodied and very smooth, but packs some punch at 8.0% ABV. The finish is crisp with some lingering roasted malt and coffee flavor. This is another high quality release from Long Live, especially for those who enjoy their coffee. Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
