Lamplighter Cloud City

As I’ve mentioned many times before on the blog, I am a huge geek. It extends way beyond just beer, I get geeky about many other things including science, music, video games, and fantasy novels. Another big thing I geek out about is Star Wars, ever since I watched the original trilogy when I was a kid I have been a huge fan, regularly watching all of the movies along with the TV shows, playing the video games, reading canon and some non-canon books, and consuming other Star Wars related media. It has gone to another level recently as my oldest son has started getting into Star Wars and I’ve been able to share some of my geek-dom with him (not the movies quite yet, he just turned 5, but we’ll get there soon). So, as a note to local breweries, if you make a beer with a Star Wars theme I will probably try it. I am not 100% sure that Lamplighter’s Cloud City IPA is named for the Cloud City run by Lando Calrissian in the Bespin system, but I am going to assume that it is a Star Wars reference and they are just careful to not make it too obvious. Lamplighter Cloud City is brewed with 100% Strata hops and is available on a rotating basis in 16 oz cans.

Lamplighter Cloud City

Lamplighter Cloud City pours hazy light orange with a massive off-white head. The aroma is solidly hoppy, heavy on the tropical fruit. The flavor is also hop-forward, notes of guava, peach, and mango along with a very mild/soft bitterness. This is balanced by some malt, hints of bread dough and cereal. Cloud City is medium-bodied and smooth, not overly boozy at 6.6% ABV. The finish is crisp with some lingering hop flavor. This is a really good NEIPA, Lando would approve, assuming he can take a break from the Colt 45! Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
