The Bruery 12 Drummers Drumming

I have finished the majority of my Christmas shopping, I tend to be the opposite of a procrastinator, but I am sure there are many people who are still looking for the perfect gift for someone on their list. I previously wrote that there is only one great gift to give the beer lover in your life: beer (I get more in-depth on ways to go about this in the article). One way to buy beer as a gift is a membership to a beer of the month club, a gift that keeps on giving all year long. BeerMonthClub.com has a number of options, including a Rare Beer Club that sends out exceptional special-release beers from around the world to members each month. Each release comes with a sheet that has information about the beer and the brewery. Kris from Beer Month Club was kind enough to send me a sample package from the Rare Beer Club to check out. One of the included beers was 12 Drummers Drumming, the final beer in the annual 12 days of Christmas series from The Bruery. 12 Drummers Drumming is a blend of 80% Belgian-style Quadruple and 20% bourbon barrel-aged Old Ale. The Bruery 12 Drummers Drumming is available for a limited time in 750 mL bombers.

The Bruery 12 Drummers Drumming

The Bruery 12 Drummers Drumming pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The aroma is mostly the fruity Belgian style yeast along with a little roasted malt. There is a lot going on in this beer. The yeast adds notes of apple, pear, and spice. The malts contribute hints of plum, bread dough, caramel, and some warming booze. The bourbon is subtle but present, and there is minimal hop flavor. 12 Drummers Drumming is a full-bodied sipper, weighing in at a hearty 12% ABV. The finish is rich with some lingering malt and yeast flavor. This is a perfect beer for cold winter nights, full-flavored, complex and boozy. Thanks to the Rare Beer Club for sending some my way! Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
