Bissell Brothers Reciprocal

My friend Russell grew up next door and still lives up in Maine, we typically get together a couple times a year when I am up visiting my parents. He is a big time beer geek who is tapped into the Maine beer scene, so I try to bring up some Massachusetts offerings in exchange for some new or hard to find Maine brews. It isn’t a formal trade,  but we both try to bring quality stuff to share whenever we get together. In August I brought a couple of the Hill Farmstead beers another friend had picked up for me in Vermont, and Russell brought some Bissell Brothers Reciprocal. This was a new to me beer, but I’ve been consistently impressed by Bissell Brothers so I was very excited to try it. Bissell Brothers Reciprocal is brewed with all-Australian hops, Ella, Summer and Vic Secret, and is available on a rotating basis on draft and in 16 oz cans.

Bissell Brothers ReciprocalBissell Brothers Reciprocal pours murky light orange with a massive white head. The aroma is solidly hoppy, very heavy on the tropical fruit. The flavor follows suit, tons of pineapple along with some orange, mango and guava along with the soft bitterness characteristic in quality NEIPAs. This is complemented by a light malt backbone, notes of bread dough and cereal. Reciprocal is medium bodied and drinks smooth, but packs some punch at 7.3% ABV. The finish is crisp with lingering hop flavor that coats the tongue and keeps you coming back for more. Reciprocal is a stellar NEIPA, another great beer in the Bissell Brothers lineup! Hoppy Boston score: 4.75/5.
