With all of the opinion articles and 5th anniversary stuff I’ve been writing over the last few weeks I’ve fallen way behind on my beer reviews. I have tasting notes together for a bunch of beers, mostly from my trip up to Maine in late August, so I am going to try and knock out a bunch of reviews over the next couple weeks. The Maine trip included a stop at craft beer mecca Industrial Way, probably my favorite beer stop in the country. The newest addition to the Industrial Way family is Definitive Brewing Company. Definitive rolls out a lineup featuring a large number of New England style IPAs along with a few interesting takes on the kolsch style. Their flagship beer is Definitive Ale, a double dry-hopped NEIPA featuring American and Australian hop varieties. Definitive Brewing Definitive Ale is available year round on draft and in 16 oz cans.
Definitive Ale pours very hazy dark yellow with a solid cream colored head. The aroma features a solid hit of fruity hops. These new world hops lead the flavor too, notes of guava, mango and tangerine but a very soft bitterness, definitively a New England style IPA. This is complemented by a solid malt backbone, touches of crackers and bread dough. Definitive Ale is medium bodied and drinks easy, and it’s moderately boozy at 6.7% ABV. The finish is crisp with some lingering hop flavor and a little residual sweetness. Definitive Ale is a tasty NEIPA, I was impressed by the first few beers I tried from their brewery.
