Trillium Six

Happy Mass Beer Week! I hope everyone is celebrating the week by enjoying some delicious local beer and sharing your favorite selections on social media using #MassBeerWeek. There is some more information on special events all week HERE. Due to the current insanity that is my life I doubt I’ll make it to any events this week, but I plan on drinking plenty of local beers. One that I enjoyed this weekend was Six, a Belgian style pale ale from Trillium. Trillium is probably best known for their hoppy beers, and their well crafted stouts and sours get a lot of attention too. I’ve also typically enjoyed their Belgian inspired releases, their brewers are good at building beers to complement the expressive strains of yeast. A good recent example is the Belgian pale ale Six, which is inspired by the local pale ales Trillium founder JC enjoyed on his trips through Europe before he started the brewery. Belgian pale ales and saisons are amongst my favorite styles for spring and summer, and we are finally seeing some spring weather after winter overstayed it’s welcome by more than a few weeks, so I am ready for some flavorful and refreshing Belgian beers. Trillium Six is available for a limited time on draft and in 750 mL bottles.

Trillium SixTrillium Six pours clear light orange with a massive white head. The aroma is rich with fruity and funky Belgian style yeast. The flavors from the fermentation also take center stage, notes of apple, peppercorn, barnyard and apricot. This is complemented by a solid malt backbone, hints of bread dough and cereal. The flavor is rounded out by some floral and herbal hops. Trillium Six is light bodied and drinks very easy, but at 6.0% ABV it isn’t a session beer. The finish is crisp and dry with some lingering fruity yeast flavors. This is a very good Belgian pale ale, tons of flavor, super drinkable, perfect to pair with a meal. I hope this isn’t a one off beer, it would be a great addition to the regular Trillium rotation! Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
