Bent Water Blast Off

As we approach a full year of social distancing, mask wearing and work/school from home I am thankful for everything my (real-job) company has done to keep employees connected and sane over the last year. Every month or so we get a gift box with themed treats or wellness activities. We also have monthly themed socials (on Zoom of course), with lots of quarantibe-useful skills like baking and whiskey tasting. Recently the work Fantasy Football league had a wrap party and it included a mix pack of beers from Bent Water Brewing, shipped directly to our houses ahead of the call. It was great to celebrate the season with some tasty beers and some Zoom trivia. Included in the mix pack from Bent Water was an extremely fresh can of Blast Off, an IPA brewed to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the brewery. Bent Water Blast Off is brewed with Columbus, Falconer’s Flight and Mosaic hops and is available on draft and in 16 oz cans every spring to celebrate the brewery’s anniversary.

Bent Water Blast Off pours murky pale orange with a massive off-white head. The aroma features a big bust of hops, loads of tropical fruit. The flavor is also very hop forward, notes of mango, grapefruit, tangerine and passion fruit along with just a hint of soft bitterness. This is balanced by a malt backbone, hints of cereal and bread crust. Blast Off is medium-bodied and very smooth, not overly boozy at 6.5% ABV. The finish is crisp with plenty of residual hop flavor. This is a very good NEIPA, perfect for celebrating an anniversary or for pretty much any occasion. Hoppy Boston score: 4.5/5.
